TaskDrag
Feature

Allows user to drag and drop tasks within Gantt, to change their start date.

Constraining the drag drop area

You can constrain how the dragged task is allowed to move by using getDateConstraints. This method is configured on the Gantt instance and lets you define the date range for the dragged task programmatically.

Drag drop tasks from outside

Dragging unplanned tasks from an external grid is a very popular use case. Please refer to the Drag from grid demo and study the Drag from grid guide to learn more.

Validating a drag drop operation

It is easy to programmatically decide what is a valid drag drop operation. Use the validatorFn and return either true / false (optionally a message to show to the user).

features : {
    taskDrag : {
       validatorFn(draggedTaskRecords, newStartDate) {
           const valid = Date.now() >= newStartDate;

return { valid, message : valid ? '' : 'Not allow to drag a task into the past' }; } } }

If you instead want to do a single validation upon drop, you can listen to beforeTaskDropFinalize and set the valid flag on the context object provided.

const gantt = new Gantt({
    listeners : {
        beforeTaskDropFinalize({ context }) {
            const { taskRecords } = context;
            // Don't allow dropping a task in the past
            context.valid = Date.now() <= eventRecords[0].startDate;
        }
    }
});

Preventing drag of certain tasks

To prevent certain tasks from being dragged, you have two options. You can set draggable to false in your data, or you can listen for the beforeTaskDrag event and return false to block the drag.

new Gantt({
    listeners : {
        beforeTaskDrag({ taskRecord }) {
            // Only allow dragging tasks that has not started
            return taskRecord.percentDone === 0;
        }
    }
})

Customizing the drag drop tooltip

To show custom HTML in the tooltip, please see the tooltipTemplate config. Example:

features: {
    taskDrag: {
        // A minimal start date tooltip
        tooltipTemplate : ({ taskRecord, startDate }) => {
            return DateHelper.format(startDate, 'HH:mm');
        }
    }
}

Configs

Configs are options you supply in a configuration object when creating an instance of this class
  • Set to true to drag all selected tasks. Set to false to only drag one task at a time

    Has a corresponding runtime dragAllSelectedTasks property.

  • this reference for the validatorFn

  • Set to false to allow dragging tasks outside the client Scheduler. Useful when you want to drag tasks between multiple Scheduler instances

  • An object used to configure the internal DragHelper class

  • When enabled, the event being dragged always "snaps" to the exact start date that it will have after drop.

  • Specifies whether to show tooltip while dragging event

    Has a corresponding runtime showTooltip property.

  • The eventDragand taskDrag events are normally only triggered when the drag operation will lead to a change in date or assignment. By setting this config to false, that logic is bypassed to trigger events for each native mouse move event.

    Has a corresponding runtime throttleDragEvent property.

  • A config object to allow customization of the Tooltip which tracks the event during a drag operation.

    Has a corresponding runtime tip property.

  • Internal listeners, that cannot be removed by the user.

  • The widget which this plugin is to attach to.

    Has a corresponding runtime client property.

  • Set to false to disable localization of this object.

Properties

Properties are getters/setters or publicly accessible variables on this class
  • isEvents : Booleantrue
    READONLY
    static
    ADVANCED
    Events
    Identifies an object as an instance of Events class, or subclass thereof.
  • isLocalizable : Booleantrue
    READONLY
    static
    ADVANCED
    Localizable
    Identifies an object as an instance of Localizable class, or subclass thereof.
  • isTaskDrag : Booleantrue
    READONLY
    static
    ADVANCED
    Identifies an object as an instance of TaskDrag class, or subclass thereof.
  • properties : Object
    internal
    static
    InstancePlugin

    A class property getter for the default values of internal properties for this class.

  • Set to true to drag all selected tasks. Set to false to only drag one task at a time

    Has a corresponding dragAllSelectedTasks config.

  • emptyArray : Array
    internal
    READONLY
    InstancePlugin

    An empty array that can be used as a default value.

  • emptyObject : Object
    internal
    READONLY
    InstancePlugin

    An empty object that can be used as a default value.

  • isDragBase : Booleantrue
    READONLY
    ADVANCED
    DragBase
    Identifies an object as an instance of DragBase class, or subclass thereof.
  • isInstancePlugin : Booleantrue
    READONLY
    ADVANCED
    InstancePlugin
    Identifies an object as an instance of InstancePlugin class, or subclass thereof.
  • isTaskDrag : Booleantrue
    READONLY
    ADVANCED
    Identifies an object as an instance of TaskDrag class, or subclass thereof.
  • Returns true if a drag operation is active

  • Specifies whether to show tooltip while dragging event

    Has a corresponding showTooltip config.

  • The eventDragand taskDrag events are normally only triggered when the drag operation will lead to a change in date or assignment. By setting this config to false, that logic is bypassed to trigger events for each native mouse move event.

    Has a corresponding throttleDragEvent config.

  • Yields the Tooltip which tracks the event during a drag operation.

    Has a corresponding tip config.

  • config : Object
    READONLY
    ADVANCED
    InstancePlugin

    Returns a copy of the full configuration which was used to configure this object.

  • This property is set to true before the constructor returns.

  • isDestroying : Boolean
    READONLY
    ADVANCED
    InstancePlugin

    This property is set to true on entry to the destroy method. It remains on the objects after returning from destroy(). If isDestroyed is true, this property will also be true, so there is no need to test for both (for example, comp.isDestroying || comp.isDestroyed).

  • client : Widget
    READONLY
    ADVANCED
    InstancePlugin

    The Widget which was passed into the constructor, which is the Widget we are providing extra services for.

    Has a corresponding client config.

  • Get the global LocaleHelper

  • Get the global LocaleManager

Functions

Functions are methods available for calling on the class
  • onClassMixedIn( )
    internal
    static
    InstancePlugin

    This optional class method is called when a class is mixed in using the mixin() method.

  • initClass( )
    static
    ADVANCED
    InstancePlugin

    Registers this class type with its Factory

  • Gets html to display in tooltip while dragging event. Uses clockTemplate to display start & end dates.

  • onDrag( )
    private
    DragBase

    Triggered while dragging an event. Updates drag data, validation etc.

  • Triggered when dragging of an event starts. Initializes drag data associated with the event being dragged.

  • onDrop( )
    private
    DragBase

    Triggered when dropping an event. Finalizes the operation.

  • Triggered internally on invalid drop.

  • Called when scheduler is rendered. Sets up drag and drop and hover tooltip.

  • Updates drag data's dates and validity (calls #validatorFn if specified)

  • Internal function used to hook destroy() calls when using thisObj

  • Internal function used restore hooked destroy() calls when using thisObj

  • doDestroy( )
    internal
    Events

  • once( )
    private
    Events

    Internal function used to run a callback function after an event is triggered

  • Removes all listeners registered to this object by the application.

  • This will merge a feature's (subclass of InstancePlugin) keyMap with it's client's keyMap.

Events

Event handlers

Event handlers are callbacks called as a result of certain actions in this class
